WHAT WE ARE SEEKING
The American Shakespeare Center looks for classically-trained actors who also are strong singers and musicians. Our actors play and sing music before and during all ASC shows. Musical ability is not, however, a requirement for employment.
We look for actors of all shapes, sizes, colors, and abilities. We frequently cast women as male characters and sometimes men as female characters. We cast actors of color in any/all roles. We believe that Shakespeare's plays tell the stories of all of us and we want our casting to reflect that.
Our casting period is March through November for the following year's seasons. Final auditions/callbacks will be held in New York and Staunton in October. Offers will be made by Thanksgiving.
If you would like to be considered for an audition, please follow the instructions below:
Email your headshot and resume to firstname.lastname@example.org Include your full name in the subject line of your email. Submit your headshot in JPG format and your resume in PDF (each file should be no larger than 200Kb). Use your first and last name for the JPG and PDF filenames (i.e. Will.Kemp.jpg). In the body of your email, please include your full name and your union affiliations (including number of EMC weeks. if applicable), and the city in which you reside. We review every submission that we receive, and will contact you if we would like to set up an audition, either in person or by video. We will invite approximately 20% of the submissions we receive to audition, based on experience and training. No phone calls or follow up emails please.
We may ask you for a preliminary video audition, but to be considered for final casting, actors should attend auditions/callbacks in New York City, Chicago, or Staunton in the fall.
We hold Equity Principal Auditions each year.
All actors must be authorized to accept employment in the United States in order to audition. Candidates will be required to present proof of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Thank you for your interest in working for the American Shakespeare Center.
