Teacher Seminars

The workshop inspired passion in me while reassuring me that even though I don't come close to being an experienced teacher of Shakespeare, I don't need to let that fear hold me back from embracing one of his works in the classroom with my students. Shakespeare CAN and SHOULD be fun and pure pleasure to teach!
--Seminar Participant, Currituck County, NC (Fall 2016)

Four times a year, the American Shakespeare Center devotes a seminar to the classroom applications of plays from our repertoire. Professor Ralph Alan Cohen, the education staff, and our troupe of professional actors provide teachers with a host of materials and techniques for bringing Shakespeare to life for their students. The play-specific seminars focus on making the plots, characters, words, and drama of Shakespeare's plays relevant and exciting in the classroom. We aim to remove your students' "ShakesFear" and to replace it with enthusiasm for the active exploration of the plays on the stage.
