More than 300 guests joined the actors and staff of the American Shakespeare Center on Saturday, September 24th.  Together, they celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, VA.  Whether you were able to join us on that historic night or not, we want you to remember with us what an amazing event it was!

Generous Donors provided numerous Auction items, including some amazing Blackfriars Playhouse memorabilia, one-of-a-kind events, and fantastic trips:

• “Rick on a Stick” - Wrested from the arms of Jenny McNee in the Blackfriars Playhouse prop room comes the fabulous Rick-on-a-Stick. Uncanny in its likeness to our own Rick Blunt, this hefty stick could be the centerpiece of your ASC memorabilia collection, or a great conversation piece at cocktail parties. The prop comes with an autographed poster of Mr. Blunt.

• Gallants’ Stool by Paul Borzelleca - This wonderful Gallants’ stool is offered especially in honor of our 10th Anniversary by Paul Borzelleca, owner of the Modernboy Woodshop in Staunton. Every time you enter the Blackfriars Playhouse you see Paul’s stunning work. Our beautiful doors and every seat were created by him 10 years ago and still look amazing.

• Spend a glorious week in a three bedroom villa at the Grand Regina luxury resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. The resort features three swimming pools, a spa and fitness center, open air restaurant, private beachfront, and a pool bar, just to mention a few of its amenities. A spectacular view of the Sea of Cortez, and possible sightings of neighboring celebrities George Clooney and Yankees 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez, make this an “over the top” experience.

• Week at the Sea Ranch in the Outer Banks, NC - Located in Kill Devil Hills, this week long beach escape is perfect for a couple or a family to spend some quality time together. The completely renovated Sea Ranch is one of the oldest beachfront hotels in the area, and features an indoor heated pool, fine French dining, and luxury accommodations. Spend the week relaxing in your two bedroom suite, take in the view, and spend some time in the birthplace of American aviation.

• Dinner Party with Dan Layman and Pamela Fox - Come; let us eight to dinner I dare say. Mr. Layman and Dr. Fox have kindly offered to host a dinner party for 8 at the President’s House at Mary Baldwin College for the winner of this item. You and your guests will be treated to a gourmet multi-course meal prepared by Chef Dan in what is sure to be a fantastic evening.

• Staunton Condo Weekend for Two - Spend a weekend in this cozy condo in the heart of Staunton. Included is dinner for two at the Staunton Grocery and two tickets to the Blackfriars Playhouse. The condo comes well stocked with refreshments including two bottles of local Ox-Eye Vineyards wine, beer, soft drinks, and snacks.

• Weekend for Four in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor - There’s not much better than a visit to Baltimore, especially when it’s a two night stay at the Homewood Suites Hilton in the Inner Harbor. Your suite features two bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, and other great amenities. Four tickets to the Baltimore Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center and dinner for four at an Inner Harbor restaurant complete the experience. This is a great way to enjoy the best of Baltimore.

• A Victorian Staffordshire figure of Shakespeare made in 1864, the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth. Considered folk art, Staffordshire figures were created by adults and decorated by children. This is a tall example of Staffordshire and is in excellent condition. Bring a bit of history home with you and tell your friends that the Bard lives in your house!

• This is a wonderful, heavy double-twisted sterling silver bracelet. It is a gorgeous piece that was designed a decade ago for the Blackfriars Playhouse opening celebrations, and features a disc with the American Shakespeare Center’s logo.

The delicious menu included Italian Style Meatballs, Fried Ravioli, Roast Pork Loin, Brown Sugar and Honey Baked Brie, and an assortment of delicious desserts all generously provided by the Stonewall Jackson Hotel and Conference Center.
