On Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at 6:00 p.m., Steven Urkowitz, professor at the City University of New York, will be presenting the "Dr. Ralph Lecture" on differences between Quarto and Folio version of King Lear. The event will be held at the Blackfriars Playhouse prior to that evening's performance of King Lear. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Urkowitz, who earned his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago, is the author of the 1980 book Shakespeare's Revision of "King Lear" and "Brother, Can You Spare a Paradigm?: Textual Generosity and the Printing of Shakespeare's Multiple-Text Plays by Contemporary Editors," and other essays on Shakespeare. He has directed Medieval, Renaissance, and contemporary plays, and he has worked as dramatic coach for the Western Wind Vocal Ensemble. His current research includes writing on teaching, editing, and Shakespeare's revisions.
