The American Shakespeare Center accepts resumes from January 1st through March 1st for show director and summer counseling positions. Below you will find brief job descriptions, a list of questions/vital information you must include with your resume, and a link to a form to complete. Tom Dumontier, Camp Life Coordinator, will contact you via email to set up a phone interview starting in mid-February. Final decisions are usually made by the beginning of April.

American Shakespeare Center Theatre Camp Show Director
Job Description: You will be responsible for one of the six final performances (in Session 1, Pericles, As You Like It, and The Wild Goose Chase; in Session 2, Richard II, The Taming of the Shrew, and Volpone). Directors will cut their scripts to 1 hour performance length (1200 lines) according to ASC Theatre Camp guidelines, cast and double their shows, and manage a production team of two assistant directors and a dramaturg. Directors will work with campers 3 to 5 hours a day, 6 days a week, for 3 weeks. A minimum BA or BFA is preferred, along with extensive directing and educational experience. We also expect directors to have a working knowledge of Shakespeare's Staging Conditions, including scansion, rhetoric, and audience contact. In addition to rehearsal hours, each director may submit a proposal to teach a Master Class or Lecture in an area of her or his expertise.

Preferred Qualifications and Certifications:
-Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
-Valid Driver’s License
-Completion of one year of college (or be at least 19 years-of-age).
-Experience in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature
-Rich, diverse background in theatre (may include performance, education, etc.)
-Exhibits dependability, punctuality, patience, teamwork, self-control and enthusiasm.
-Possesses good leadership abilities and responsibility.
-Demonstrates appropriate behavior at all times.
-Must provide one written recommendation and 2 references.
Responsibilities:
-Acts as a resident assistant for all campers.
-Manages morning wake-up and evening lights-out.
-Administers any camper prescription medicine per the delivery schedule.
-Observes, promotes all rules and regulations of ASCTC.
-Supervises and escorts all campers during activities.
-Instructs and interacts with campers during activities.
-Acts as assistant director for camp productions.
-Supports and assists workshop leaders with master classes.
-Works closely with campers on text analysis and line memorization.
-Works amicably and cooperatively with all staff members.
-Must communicate concerns or camper needs to camp directors.
