Ever since the so-called Cobbe portrait, discovered earlier this year, and said to depict Shakespeare, everyone's been talking about what Shakespeare really looked like. We have our doubts that Will really looked so genteel and aristocratic, but we're more interested in what Shakespeare means for people in today's world.

That's why we launched our Picture Shakespeare Today Contest. Do you think that Will is as hot as The Wire, as controversial as Britney, and all the while, teasingly twitterable too? The folks who sent us portraits of Will did. Portraits were left open; they could be drawings, illustrations, or photo treatments. And they could be realistic, abstract impressionist, or Dada, as long as they were original work and expressed the enduring power, freshness, and vibrancy of Shakespeare -- and got to the heart of why people love Will today more than ever.

As usual, our panel of highly subjective judges will selected a single lucky winner who will receive one subscription to our 2009 Summer and Fall Seasons (a $150 value) at the Blackfriars Playhouse. The winner was Katie
