Blackfriars Playhouse 10 South Market Street Staunton, VA 24401

I-64 or I-81 (Exit I-64 onto I-81)

Take Interstate 81 to Exit 222. Follow 250 West (Richmond Road) for approximately 2 1/2 miles toward "Historic Downtown Staunton." You will begin to see signs to the Blackfriars Playhouse. When Hwy. 250 ends at a "T" intersection, turn right and go under the train tracks. Get immediately into the left lane to make an immediate left turn at the next light, which is Greenville Ave. (then quickly becomes Johnson Street.) Turn left and travel one curving block to New Street. At the corner of New Street and Johnson Street is the New Street Parking Garage. From the parking garage, walk through the east opening walkway and follow to the Blackfriars Playhouse.

From the North via Highway 11 (Bypass)

Drive south into Staunton toward "Historic Downtown Staunton." You will begin to see signs to the Blackfriars Playhouse. At the fork in the road, bear left. Follow to the traffic lights at Coalter Street. Go straight via Greenville Ave. onto Johnson Street. At the corner of New Street and Johnson Street is the New Street Parking Garage. From the parking garage, walk through the east opening walkway and follow to the Blackfriars Playhouse.

From the West

From either Churchville Road (Route 250) or Morris Mill Road, enter the Staunton by-pass (Route 262) going South. Exit East on Beverley Street (Route 254), towards "Historic Downtown Staunton." Once you reach downtown, turn right on Market Street to the Playhouse. (Parking is around the corner and down the hill in the New Street Parking Garage.)

Parking Information

Street Parking

Much of the street parking in Historic Downtown Staunton has a two-hour limit between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday (excluding Holidays). Parking is unlimited between the hours of 5:00pm and 8:00am and on weekends.

The right-hand side of Beverley Street between Market Street and Coalter Street is the nearest all-day street parking to the Blackfriars Playhouse.

Handicapped spaces: There are two handicapped spaces directly in front of the Blackfriars Playhouse at 10 S. Market Street.

Parking Garages

Staunton has two public parking garages, on the corner of Johnson Street and New Street (just behind the Blackfriars Playhouse) and on the corner of Johnson Street and Central Avenue (two blocks from the Blackfriars Playhouse).

Both garages have nominal parking fees (New Street garage is $0.50 an hour Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and $1.00 to exit at any other time). These fees can be paid with CASH ONLY. American Shakespeare Center patrons may obtain change for the parking garage at the Blackfriars Playhouse Box Office

Parking Lots

There is a free parking lot on Lewis Street (between Baldwin Street and Pump Street, across from the Howard Johnson Express Inn). This parking lot includes a trolley stop for convenient transportation between the lot and the Blackfriars Playhouse. Buses should plan to park in this lot, but may drop off passengers directly in front of the Blackfriars Playhouse.

A metered parking lot is located on the corner of Beverley Street and Market Street (less than a block from the Blackfriars Playhouse). The meters are $0.25 an hour between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Parking is free outside of these hours.

An hourly parking lot is located on Johnson Street between Byers Street and S. Lewis Street. Please note that this lot is occasionally closed for community events such as the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings between April and November.
