We would like to invite you to become a volunteer at the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre, the Blackfriars Playhouse.
At the American Shakespeare Center, our amazing volunteers serve as the backbone of our community support from the Shenandoah Valley. Every day they make an essential contribution to the enthusiastic, friendly atmosphere at the Blackfriars Playhouse. As the Blackfriars Playhouse has performances, special events, and education programs in progress year round, the ASC is especially grateful for the time and effort our volunteers so graciously donate. Everyone at the American Shakespeare Center is excited to welcome you, your family, and friends into the ASC Volunteer Program and enjoy all its exclusive benefits!
Since the Blackfriars Playhouse opened in 2001, the American Shakespeare Center’s Volunteer Usher Guild has welcomed over a quarter of a million guests through its doors. Benefits of being an usher include complimentary tickets, special invitations, and discounts on purchases at the Blackfriars Playhouse gift shop.
Now we want to welcome YOU as an usher!
To join the ASC VUG, simply attend an orientation. Usher orientations are held once a month in the Blackfriars Playhouse front lobby. Anyone over the age of 16 can be an ASC volunteer usher. Once you have completed an orientation, you can usher as often as you like.
If you have any questions or would like to sign up for the next usher orientation, please contact the Katie Crandol at (540) 851-1733 or katie@americanshakespearecenter.com or apply online here.
Are you interested in how we do what we do? Join us behind-the-scenes in our administrative office assisting with our education programs, fundraising campaign and events, marketing and public relations, and general clerical work.
To assist in our office, please contact Sarah Enloe at 540-885-5588, ext. 28 or sarahe@americanshakespearecenter.com.
Do you have sewing experience to share? Volunteering at the ASC Costume Shop is your chance to weave your mark into the ASC’s dedication to Shakespeare’s Renaissance staging practices.
To become an ASC Costume Shop Volunteer, contact the ASC costume shop at (540) 851-1733, ext. 12 or info@americanshakespearecenter.com.
Thank you for your interest in the ASC and the Blackfriars Playhouse. We look forward to talking with you about our volunteer opportunities.
