The American Shakespeare Center casts three troupes of actors each year. All actors will be cast in multiple roles in rotating repertory and must be available for the entire contract period.
Contract period: May through November (7-month contract)
Performs four plays in rotating repertory at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, VA
Equity and non-Equity actors
Contract period: July through June (11.5-month contract)
Tours in the fall and late-winter with three plays in rotating repertory
Performs in residence in the Blackfriars Playhouse Holiday Season in December
Performs four plays in rotating repertory in the Blackfriars Playhouse Spring Season
Contract period: January-March (14-week contract)
Performs five plays in rotating repertory at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, VA
Equity and non-Equity actors
All actors in the Actors' Renaissance Season will have worked previously with the ASC
The American Shakespeare Center looks for classically-trained actors who also are strong singers and musicians. Our actors play and sing music before and during all ASC shows. Musical ability is not, however, a requirement for employment.
Our casting period is March through November for the following year's seasons. Final auditions/callbacks will be held in New York and Staunton in October. Offers will be made by Thanksgiving.

Include your full name in the subject line of your email.
Submit your headshot in JPG format and your resume in PDF (each file should be no larger than 200Kb).
Use your first and last name for the JPG and PDF filenames (i.e. Will.Kemp.jpg).
In the body of your email, please include your full name and your union affiliations (including number of EMC weeks. if applicable), and the city in which you reside.
We review every submission that we receive, and will contact you if we would like to set up an audition, either in person or by video.
We will invite approximately 20% of the submissions we receive to audition, based on experience and training.
No phone calls or follow up emails please.
We may ask you for a preliminary video audition, but to be considered for final casting, actors will need to attend auditions/callbacks in either New York or Staunton in the fall.
We hold Equity Principal Auditions each year. The 2015 EPAs will be held October 12 in Staunton, VA and October 23 in New York, NY.
All actors must be authorized to accept employment in the United States in order to audition. Candidates will be required to present proof of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S.
