Travel Assistance

For campers traveling alone, we can assist with transportation to and from select airports and train stations in and around Staunton. Extra fees apply (see below).

Families can request travel assistance at the time of registration. If scheduling shifts or plans made after registration require adding or otherwise changing your need for travel assistance, please let us know as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.

Transportation assistance is only available on select dates and times and according to staff availability.

We will do our best to schedule an airport pickup close to your camper’s arrival time. We will only schedule one trip per airport per day unless driver availability permits us to schedule more than one trip. We will contact you shortly before camp begins to confirm your travel arrangements and to share your driver’s contact information.

*Some airline reservations require that you list the name of the person who will pick up a traveling minor. If your flight reservation requires this information, please contact Lia Wallace prior to confirming your reservation. ASC staff may not be able to claim your camper at the airport unless the person listed on your reservation is present at the airport.

Accommodation

Staunton offers many accommodation options for parents who would like to stay an extra night at the beginning or end of each camp session.

The Stonewall Jackson Hotel and Conference Center is conveniently located adjacent to the Blackfriars Playhouse.

The Frederick House is a charming bed and breakfast located across the street from Mary Baldwin University. We highly recommend that parents book their rooms for the final weekend of camp at the time they register.

Orientation & Move-IN

Each session begins with a move-in and orientation day. Campers and their parents should plan to arrive in Staunton on that day (Sunday, June 17 for Session 1 and Sunday, July 15 for Session 2 of ASCTC 2018). Parents should plan to stay through the orientation session and then bid their campers farewell before dinner.

Campers may move in to the PEG dorm at 201 E Frederick Street between 10:00AM and 2:00PM on Orientation Sunday. Campers and their parents may dine together in downtown Staunton for lunch that afternoon. We begin our orientation meeting at 2:00PM for all campers and parents. Following the orientation meeting, parents depart and campers start three weeks of Shakespearean fun and adventure!

Final Performance Festival

You’re invited.

Parents and siblings, families and friends: you finally get the chance to see the fruits of our labor when you see your camper strut and fret an hour upon the Blackfriars Playhouse Stage. Three weeks of hard work, big choices, admirable failures, and surprising successes culminate with the Final Performance Festival at each session’s end.

2018 Session 1 Performance Festival: July 8, 2018

2018 Session 2 Performance Festival: August 5, 2018

The Play’s (not) the (only) Thing

The Final Performance Festival is more than just the sum of its shows. Camper families are also invited to kick off the festivities with Sunday brunch at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel before joining the crowds of adoring fans and friends for the performances in the Blackfriars Playhouse.

During the one-hour lunch break, feel free to grab a bite at any of Staunton’s fabulous downtown dining establishments. Or, streamline that process by pre-ordering boxed lunches from the Baja Bean to enjoy during the lunch break.

Do not order a boxed lunch for your camper — we will feed them — or make plans to meet up with your camper during the lunch break. They’ll be hard at work, and not permitted to leave the Playhouse between shows.

When the curtain calls have ended, group photos have been taken, and the Playhouse is all packed up, friends and family will reunite with their campers at the Celebration Picnic hosted by MBU.

To pre-order lunches and to RSVP for the complimentary brunch and the picnic, please fill out the Festival RSVP & Order Form.

Eat, drink, and be merry. Celebrate the experience, the unexpected lessons learned and the incredible accomplishments made together over the course of the camp journey. Celebrate them together, with all of your families. No matter how many you had when when you arrived in Staunton three weeks ago, you’ll have a brand new family to add to the list before you leave — your camp family.

For they who come with thee to camp shall be thy family, be they never so distant, these days will strengthen thine affections.
