The American Shakespeare Center is currently seeking two literary interns.

A literary internship at the ASC is an ideal position for someone who is passionate about both new works and the works of William Shakespeare. Each intern will assist with the submission and selection process for Shakespeare’s New Contemporaries through application review, file management, script reading, and reporting. They will also provide broad-based dramaturgical support to ASC’s productions through project-specific research, actor packet creation, and some light rehearsal support.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in theatre history, especially Shakespeare; an active interest and involvement in contemporary theatre; excellent reading comprehension and research techniques; good organizational skills and a keen eye for details; curiosity and a sense of humor.

Internship Term Dates
  • January 7–September 27
  • March 13–December 13

* Please indicate in your application which internship term (or both) you are available. While both internships will intersect in some way with all components of the literary office’s work; the earlier internship term has a slight emphasis on new play production, while the latter sees more new play selection.

30–40 hrs/week


$500/month; optional housing provided
