The American Shakespeare Center seeks self-motivated individual who is willing to provide assistance and comfort to all troupe members (management, actors, and crew members) during both the rehearsal process and performances, both in house, at the Blackfriars Playhouse, and on the road at our tour venues.


June 12, 2019, through May 31, 2020



  • College graduate with stage management and/or technical theatre experience
  • Comfortable working with performers and crew members of all ages / skill levels, and providing leadership (as directed through Tour Manager)
  • Experience working with costumes (basic repairs and maintenance)
  • Able to perform (with a script) in emergency conditions
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Able to lift/carry 50 pounds
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with GoogleSuite and/or MS Office preferred (will train right candidate)
  • Ability to multitask
  • Love of Shakespeare and theatre a plus


Assistant stage manager:
  • Assist Tour Manager with coordination and management of productions during rehearsal and performance periods
  • Assist Tour Manager with all aspects of ASConTour shows
  • Work with costumers and actors to implement costume procedures and schedule fittings
  • Work with Props Master and actors to implement properties procedures
  • Educate and guide production assistant interns through required tasks
  • Enforce a positive work environment and strive for good morale in the troupe
  • Act as general understudy for the Tour Troupe
  • Go on (with book) for any actor who is unable to perform
  • For planned put-ins, join rehearsals to go on for performances off-book
  • Prepare own prompt book with notes during rehearsal process to prepare and familiarize themselves with each play
Tour Wardrobe manager:

At Blackfriars Playhouse:

  • Assists Resident Wardrobe Manager with laundry for shows
  • Maintain costume shop, including maintaining order of shop supplies, re-stocking items, organize wardrobe racks
  • Attend photo calls and provide assistance in styling pre-call or last minute replacement props

On the road:

  • Maintains laundry for shows
  • Performs maintenance of costume pieces and wigs
  • Maintains logs of all costume repairs for shows
  • Notifies Costume Shop Manager of any major costume pieces in need of large-scale repair or replacement
  • Set up dressing room spaces in tour venues
