The Education Associate will teach and facilitate programs across the Education platform (leadership, residencies, little academes, teacher seminars, conferences, in-house, and outbound). Working closely with Director of Education, train and develop education artists, tour guides, and tour actors on education workshops and maintain and develop workshop materials. The associate will also work closely with the College Prep Programs Manager to select and hire Resident & Directing Assistants, train camp staff, and manage camp life needs. Finally, the associate will be active in the realm of student matinees, serving as backup and assistant to Group Sales in the facilitation of talk-backs, house management, and maintaining patron relationships. Ultimately, the position will work closely with all ASC staff to set a course for growth for the department and to ensure program impact and quality–through training, implementing research and evaluation strategies, and advocating the learning and teaching of ASC’s shows in general in the context of Shakespeare’s Staging Conditions.

Wednesday – Sunday 9:00am – 5:00pm with flexibility

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Camp Life Coordinator – ASC Theatre Camp
  • Organize, maintain, and coordinate all space use between organizations
    • Dorm room assignments for campers and staff members
    •  Walkthrough/inspection of dorms/spaces before and after
  • Maintain camp supplies and petty cash
  • Coordinate training, transportation, medical, and social needs for staff and campers
  • Manage camper/staff schedules for Session 1, Session 2, and the Extended Experience Week
  • As medical care is needed, arrange trips to the clinic and maintain emergency contact with parents
  • Create all orientation and culmination documents
Education Associate
  • Student Matinee House Assistant

Education and Experience
  • BA in Theatre or English or Education, expertise in Shakespeare strongly preferred
  • At least 3 years experience in teaching in a variety of environments, preferably some theatre experience
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum delivery, preferably some experience in curriculum design
  • Due to the performative nature of ASC Education programming, strong background in performance is preferred
  • Familiarity with Virginia, National, and International education standards
Physical demands/work environment
  • Standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping, light lifting (at least 15 lbs) is needed.
  • Noise level typically moderate
  • Some outside work during summer
