Chris is a graduate of Yale, The University of Texas Law School, and the Executive Program at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He started out as a lawyer in private practice in Washington, where he worked on the Hill and at EPA before starting at The Washington Post as Vice President and Counsel. He was then publisher of the Post Company’s newspaper north of Seattle, then on to Newsweek, where he eventually became President; and later, President of Cowles Magazines. He retired as President of the Meredith Publishing Group, and now spends most of the time on his farm in Highland County with his wife Betsy; they also have a house in Staunton. Chris is heavily involved in a number of nonprofit institutions, including Heifetz International Music Institute, The College of William & Mary, James Monroe’s Highland, and of course The American Shakespeare Center.
