The American Shakespeare Center (ASC), a $3.7M theatre and education center in Staunton, Virginia announces a new, paid theatre administration internship.

Working with and reporting to the Managing Director, the Theatre Administration Intern will help with the day-to-day management of the ASC. Ideal candidates should be enthusiastic and focused workers with an interest in all areas of theatre administration. Current graduate students or recent Bachelor’s or Master’s graduates are encouraged to apply.

Areas of concentration will include:
  • Budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow
  • Board relations
  • Equity, diversity, and inclusion work
  • Donor relations
  • Internal and external communications
  • Script licensing and royalty agreements
  • Union contracts including Actors’ Equity Association and Stage Directors and Choreographers Society
  • Advocacy
  • Community engagement
  • Strategic planning
  • Other areas determined by intern interest
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Cheerful and flexible approach to work and learning
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Comfort with Google applications including Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Sheets
  • A passion for theatre and/or the mission and work of the ASC

This internship requires a commitment of at least 20 hours per week and includes a weekly stipend of $150. The internship is available for a minimum of twelve weeks and up to one full year. Housing is not currently provided, however, assistance in finding appropriate housing is available if needed.
