Murray Ross

Murray is the Artistic Director of TheatreWorks, which he founded with colleagues in 1975 in Colorado Springs, where he also teaches at the University of Colorado. He has directed over 50 productions for TheatreWorks, including 20 seasons for the summer Shakespeare Festival. Recent work includes Romeo and Juliet, The Cherry Orchard, and King Lear. He has also directed for the Los Angeles Theatre Center and has created productions with symphony orchestras in Cincinnati, San Antonio, Phoenix, and Colorado Springs. With the New York Baroque Dance Company and the Concert Royal, he directed Molière’s Bourgeois Gentleman in Colorado Springs in 2000. Stage adaptations include Plato’s Symposium (with Lauren and Mark Arnest), Peer Gynt, The Bauhaus Follies, Lewis and Clark, Venus and Adonis, Huckleberry Finn, and The Life of Frederick Douglass. His play Monkey Business was produced at Wake Forest University in January of 2004. Murray is married to the celebrated painter and costumer Betty Ross.
