If you’ve felt lonely, you’re not alone. The World Health Organization reports that 25% of older adults are socially isolated, and 5–15% of adolescents experience loneliness. Loneliness affects millions, but social connection is closer than you think.

At the American Shakespeare Center (ASC), Community is at the heart of everything we do. Through shared stories and creative collaboration, ASC offers a space where you can belong. Whether you’re eight or one hundred and eight, there’s a place for you here.

This spring, discover friendship, creativity, and connection. From taking the stage to cheering in the audience, every moment at ASC is a chance to spark lasting relationships.

Learn More About Loneliness and the Power of Social Connection

Loneliness can feel overwhelming, but you have the power to change that—for yourself and for others. Social connection is a vital need, one that strengthens individuals and communities. When loneliness is left unchecked, it can:

  • Increase the risk of anxiety, depression, and dementia
  • Heighten the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and stroke
  • Pose health risks comparable to smoking or excessive drinking

At ASC, you are at the center of every moment. With our unique shared light, actors and audiences share the same space, creating a sense of belonging. Your presence transforms a performance into a community, where the energy of a show and the joy of creating something extraordinary remind us all why connection matters.

Your Next Connection Is Waiting

At ASC, theatre is about people. It is about coming together to laugh, create, and share unforgettable moments. Whether you are joining a program, volunteering your time, or enjoying a performance, every step you take toward connection strengthens our community.

Take the first step toward connection this spring. Join us at the Blackfriars Playhouse, where every moment brings people closer together.
