Voice! Costumes! Richard III! And a bloody bloody king of Scotland! The somewhat tenuous theme of today was “takeover”, as camper Jules flooded the Instagram feed with the first camper takeover of four (Olivia Rose tomorrow??), as there was an impromptu reading of the taking-over-est of guys, Richard III, and as we ended the day with Macbeth’s takeover of Scotland.

Today the campers ranged over Staunton both officially and unofficially, as the success of last night’s dress rehearsal led many to celebrate on the town, and as our activities took place in the playhouse and Deming rehearsal space and everything in between. After morning rehearsals and lunch, we travelled down to the costume shop to get a tour and to ask as many questions as the kids could think of for the awesome Costume Coven!

~
Then they came back to the dorm to relax (or in the case of some of them, read a highly abridged Richard III in the first floor lounge!) (I promise it was their idea – they said it would be relaxing!)

~
They then moved to the Blackfriars for their final, camp-wide, voice lesson with Summer England, where some more of them got to perform monologues and receive voice-based feedback!

~
After dinner we, to the frantic delight of many, got to attend the Invited Dress for the ASC’s Macbeth!! Here are a few of the campers’ reactions (photos taken right at the beginning of intermission):

Needless to say, the show was a triumph, and many kids who had never experienced Macbeth left the theatre in tears or with their lives changed.

After Macbeth, we came back to the dorms and Hattie and Ellie sang us to sleep with an unbelievably beautiful lullaby in soprano harmony and on guitar.

To look forward to tomorrow: THE RALPHENING OF RALPH ALAN COHEN!
