After yesterday’s full day and the Day of Rehearsals before that, campers today had two multi-hour activities in the afternoon and evening: first, they rehearsed their showcase pieces; second, they had CLOWN CLASS.

First, I was unable to post a picture of yesterday’s friendship bracelet-making convention, so here are the plastic jewellers of our age:

The chain unfinished made me stay this long

TODAY, after our awesome rehearsals and awestruck John, we went into the longest and the last (non-dress) of our rehearsals for Sunday’s showcase. Having decided on an order (The Tempest first, and then Romeo and Juliet, Gallathea, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream), directors were able to finish blocking and largely finalise costumes and props for their scenes. Here’s a ruff draft of Pyramus and Thisbe:

And here’s a sneek peek at Benedick and Beatrice:

After dinner, campers got to go to CLOWN CLASS!! They learned how to “take”,

WHAT YOU EGG

as well as trip, jump, and BONK

who would have thought the paper towels would have had so much trip in them

in a series of Deeply Serious Clown Art Exercises including Kitty Needs a Corner, viewpoints lanes, and dance battles. This is how clowns hide:

I whipped me behind the arras

And this is how they rob banks:

Speak not so loud!!

The workshop ended with clowns dying of too much kung-fu fighting.

To die, to sleep, no more

~

Camper Alan sang us to sleep with a lullaby tonight, and tomorrow we begin the first full day of our lives after taking this clown class. The changes to self may be eternal.
