What we did

First rehearsal in the Playhouse!! With such a unique and dynamic stage, we began by familiarizing ourselves with the space—walking around, opening doors, and paging curtains to get a feel for how we can move and live within it. Then, we jumped right into blocking and made it through the first three scenes! Also, the character work is already shining. The tension between these strong, opinionated characters is palpable—there’s even been a slap already (staged, of course)! The energy is high, and we’re off to a fantastic start.

Quick and Quotable

  • From the director
      • “I’m going to use a stereotype, but you know when a guy loses a video game…” – Mili
      • “Well we’re talking about treason, crazy for the lights to flicker just now….don’t love that.” – Mili
  • From the cast (plus Mili)
    • “This puts me right in line to ‘ahhha’ *stabs at Henry VI*” – Anna Caroline
      • “Um, this is not a safe place, Mili.” – Phoenix
      • “That’s okay cause your king is wrong.” – Mili

Production Insights

It’s always interesting to begin a new production, especially because each cast brings a completely new dynamic. Working with a new director can also be a challenge at first—there’s often a period of adjustment as you learn their style and preferences. But working with Mili has already been a truly delightful experience. Her passion and deep knowledge of early modern theatre are immediately apparent, and she approaches each scene with the eye of an artist. Most importantly, her communication with the campers is consistently clear and supportive. She fosters a collaborative, welcoming environment—one in which creativity not only thrives, but is celebrated.
