What we did
After a couple of brief interruptions, we were back to blocking! We started with a fun dancing game led by Sanchez to get the blood flowing. After that, we dove into blocking Act 3, which includes the first scene featuring King Henry, a French siege of Rouen, a parley with the Duke of Burgundy, and Talbot being named the Earl of Shrewsbury. We ended with fight choreography with team fight captain, Jake, where we began to stage the deaths of Talbot and his son. All the while, campers worked hard to memorize their lines, taking any time they weren’t needed to work.
Quick and Quotable
- From the play: “Lost, and recovered in a day again” -Talbot
- From the staff: “The audience is fertile France. Oh, I hated that.” -Hailey
- From the cast: “It’s a privilege to be speaking to me” -Mariana as Joan
Production Insights
I’m surprised by how resilient the campers have proven themselves over the past couple of rehearsals. They’ve faced major changes and stepped up in places we asked. Today, many of the campers jumped at opportunities to work on lines and or play a small non-speaking role in certain scenes. As we reach the halfway point, I am excited to see how their early hard work will pay off.
