What we did
After a fun lake/rest day, the vibes were great for this morning rehearsal! We started with a fan favorite drama club game led by former clubbers Wren, Hudson, and Laura, with some assistance from me. The bulk of the rehearsal was spent blocking the relatively short Act 2, which includes a siege on Orleans, the rose plucking scene which begins the War of the Roses, and the death of Mortimer. During blocking, campers divided up to continue fight choreography with team fight captain, Jake, or work on battle soundscapes with team music captain, Brooke. We finished with Mariana (Joan) and Hudson (Talbot) showcasing Joan and Talbot’s first fight!
Quick and Quotable
- From the play: “I pluck this white rose with Plantagenet.” “I pluck this red rose with young Somerset” -Warwick and Suffolk
- From the staff: “York is your Regina George” -Hailey
Production Insights
Since Act 2 is quite short, it was great to have extra time to detail the scenes. We were able to dive deep into the choreography of the siege, the beef between the Lancasters and Yorks, and the family line laid out by Mortimer. While not every act/scene can receive that detail work from the start, it is especially fun when the opportunity arises.
