Yesterday was the big day and what a successful day it was.
After three busy weeks of the campers in rehearsal for a rep session it was wonderful to watch all their hard work pay off! Two shows back to back with devising scenes and pre show music layered on top. It was a glorious celebration and it certainly made me feel proud as an RDA.
Even after the campers were done with the festival performances they still had two events to prepare for that evening. One camp tradition is sonnet night; the evening after the festival performances campers read aloud their sonnets to each other. The process of sonnets actually starts the first week of camp where everyone including interns and RDAs draws out names to their secret sonnet partner. The day before everyone leaves out clothes and items to where as their secret sonnet person. It was a fun time discovering who everyone had and to listen to all the sonnets being read.
Later that night before bed time the interns and RDAs team up to perform one last lullaby for the campers. Another tradition that was started is that the song is “Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. It was a performance full of laughs and tears as campers have one last night together.
This morning we said goodbye to some of the campers, but it’s not a sorrowful good bye. Some campers will be joining for session two while others we know for sure will be back. It’s not a good bye but more like a see you later. It has been a join watching the friendships and connections being made over the summer so far, and there is more to come this coming Sunday!
One last thing, the film versions of the festival shows have been uploaded to YouTube!
