What we did……………………………………………………………………………..
One of our campers, Wren, led the group in a game of character skittles for our warm-up today! After our game, Austen began table work and blocking for Act 2! Today was full of hard work and creativity. We finished blocking Act 2 through Act 3 Scene 1. With the remaining 20 minutes of rehearsal, the campers ran the show from Act 1 Scene 4 until Act 2 Scene 4. Austen led a circle of reinforcement to close out rehearsal.
Quick and Quotable…………………………………………………………………
- From the play: “God bless thee, and put meekness in thy mind.” -Duchess of York (2.2)
- From the director: “Why is my aura so whacked today?” -Austen
Production Insights…………………………………………………………………
One of the most challenging aspects of acting Shakespeare is having to switch between different roles. As an actor it is your duty to differentiate between your contrasting characters and make it known to the audience when you are playing a new person (as costuming tends to not have dramatic changes). I got to watch the beginning stages of these discoveries today. In Act 2, Scene 2 two of our actors have to play children. Watching the campers create physical, vocal, and emotional choices for their different roles is inspiring and reminds me to make bold choices.
