King Edward is captured by Team Warwick!

Today’s date: 21st July, 2025

Show title: Henry VI, Part 3

Director: Mili Koncelik

Staff Crew: Production Interns Analise Toone (Stage Manager) and Madeleine Cook (Dramaturg); RDA Sarah Clayton (Asst. Director)

What we did

In our first rehearsal, the campers ran Act 3, scene 2 through the penultimate scene, then circled back up for notes from Mili. We then worked those notes and then any additional things the campers wanted to work — various monologues, scenes, the like. After a lunch break the campers jumped into the second rehearsal of the day, picking up where we left off on the first rehearsal’s worklist AND blocking the final scene of the show, huzzah! The day concluded with some quiet individual line work.

Quick and Quotable:

  • from the play
    • “And when the lion fawns upon the lamb, / The lamb will never cease to follow him.” King Henry, 4.8.973-4
    • “Why, what is pomp, rule, reign, but Earth and dust? / And live we how we can, yet die we must.” Warwick, 5.2.1041-2
  • from the production team
    • “Yes, I will have a makeup wipe ready to shave…the mustache…” – Sarah
    • “This is your thesis statement.” – Mili
    • “4th-round Clarence draft pick is the vuluzela” – Analise
  • from the cast
    • “It’s a Madeleine! Quick, take a picture!” – Jaycen

Production Insights

There’s a quote from Bruce Lee that popped into my head during rehearsal today — “I fear not the man who has practiced a thousand kicks, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick a thousand times.” Being able to memorize something is one thing, but continuing to work what one has memorized and really getting it into ye olde bones is part of the theatre-making process and, one could argue, just as important than doing that initial memorization in the first place — hence that thought popping into my head as we were going through that list of things that the campers wanted to work on. Campers making the effort to continue to do that work lays a really, really strong foundation for not only the final performance, but future acting endeavors. (Especially when it comes to needing to do a monologue at the drop of a hat!)
