Fred Nelson

Fred is an Associate Artistic Director and Resident Voice Coach for Shenandoah Shakespeare. In five previous seasons with S2, he has directed The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and A Christmas Carol; co-directed The Taming of the Shrew, As You Like It, and Much Ado About Nothing; and has been the assistant director for nearly a dozen other titles. He has acted in S2 productions of King Lear, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Tartuffe, The Roaring Girl, Othello, and Twelfth Night. Fred has also road managed three SSE tours, taught in the Mary Baldwin/S2 M.Litt/MFA program, and co-coordinated the “Bring ‘Em Back Alive” play reading series at the Blackfriars Playhouse. He earned his MFA degree in Theatre from the University of Arizona; is a certified teacher in Lessac Voice, Speech, and Body Training; and a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association. Fred has worked as an actor in theatre, film, and television and is a member of the Actors’ Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild.
