Show Title: As You Like It

Director: Patrick Midgley

Assistant Directors: Jessica Andrews and Charlotte La Nasa

Production Intern: Brigid Bakin

Rehearsal Room: Deming

What we did: A lot of work was put into our show song today. From adding all of the instruments, including percussion, to devising harmonies. A tableau was then built, and each camper added themselves in where they saw fit. The play was then blocked all the way through to the beginning of act 3, which also includes a lot of music from our ensemble.

Quick and Quotable

  • From the play: “Sit down and feed, and welcome to our table.”

  • From the director: (About Frederick) “Villain guy walks center, stands center, and says terrible things.”

  • From the cast: (About Adam) “The best walk that I’ve found for my old man is a waddle.”

Production Insights: For the first time during this rehearsal process I heard the show song as it is. In addition, I got to hear all of the pieces of music that Shakespeare put into the play himself, because our musical members are actually composing their own melodies for each song, as well as music to cover entrances and exits.

Hearing the music coming together is a fantastic experience, because I haven’t heard it yet at all (since I am in the rehearsal room with blocking) So being surprised with music is always wonderful. But what is even more wonderful is watching each camper step up to the plate and give this song their all so it can become something so beautiful for their friends and families to see. Watching the campers craft this performance just from a youtube recording is quite impressive. I cannot wait to see the final product!
