Julius Caesar
Director: Jack Read
Assistant Director: Amy Ippolito
Dramaturg: Savannah Nine
Stage Manager: Shaggy Bryant
Production Manager: Mary Rose Valentine
What We Did Today
After each camper told us what moments they thought were most important to Julius Caesar, Jack, Amy, and Savannah put together our new script! We are taking a slightly less linear approach, which means we can showcase each camper’s individual talents. The end product is going to be something totally unique, and I can’t wait!
Quick and Quotable
- From the Play: “ANTONY: Good friends, sweet friends, let me not stir you up / To such a sudden flood of mutiny.
PLEBEIANS: We’ll mutiny.” - From the Director: “Here’s another thought. I’m springing this on all of you.”
- From the Cast: “God has abandoned us, Caesar is dead.” -Isaac
Production Insights
Today, we all heard a lecture from Dr. Paul Menzer about the intense political history that comes with Julius Caesar. It’s impossible to put on a non-political production of the play—even neutrality makes a strong statement. In such a bizarre series of current events, what modern connections and takeaways will these campers make out of this awesome text? Teenagers especially have unique and important points of view, not to mention the planet they’re soon to inherit. What will they do with it, and how can we empower them to be ready?
