What we did

Today we were in the Playhouse all day! We started off with our morning meeting that included a production meeting along with our normal check-in and scheduling. Rehearsal started out with reviewing 1.1 (the shipwreck) and going over 2.2 (the clowns meet Caliban) while the Prospero’s met with Lia. After a break the company staged the Epilogue and blocked bows before diving into 5.1 to clarify as much as possible.

After lunch the campers had committee time! Props and costumes got to explore the Heavens (where the ASC’s stock of costumes and props live), music committee worked on all the songs they have scored as well as the storm, choreography worked the storm and created the dance for the Masque, and media among other things got to interview one of the professional actors at the ASC (stay tuned for their interviews!).

Caliban (Isabella) and Trinculo (Fenrir) experiment with options to hide from Stephano (Poma).

Miranda (Sakura), and the Prospero’s (Maddie and Lucy) have a moment.

Gabe (Boatswain) awaits the return of Analise (Alonzo).

Quick and Quotable

  • From the play
    • Alonso: “When did you lose your daughter?” Prospero: “In this last Tempest.” (Analise and Lucy respectively)
  • From the company:
    • *Gasp* “Awww” *Sad sounds* – The entire Company after hearing about one of Maddie and Lucy’s ideas for the two Prospero’s

Production Insights

Something the Company has been thinking about a lot is how to make two actors playing Prospero readable. They chose not to take the simple option of having the actors switch halfway through the play which means more work on their end to make it readable but also provides endless space for creativity. They have made bold choices and only continue to refine. I can’t wait to see what their connection looks like by performance day!
