What we did
We stayed all in one group today, and after a quick warm-up led by Ronee Goldman we jumped back into the text and got very very close to finishing up our paraphrases and definitions. We had many laughs today, moments of group realization, and lots of exciting ideas for props and costumes. The cast is really excited to get back onto our feet when we start blocking again tomorrow.
Quick and Quotable
- ”Golden Lads, and Girls all must/ As Chimney-Sweepers come to dust”. – A line from the song sung during a sad. Moment of the play. Very beautiful imagery that stood out to me and the cast today.
- “What if the ring was a ring pop?” A hilarious idea from the cast, to which Emily responded “I mean, if that’s the world we live in then that’s the world we live in.”
Production Insights
Sitting down and doing text work with everyone has been incredibly valuable. Getting to see the realization in each campers eyes when we go through paraphrasing is so exciting! The text of this show is complicated and multilayered and messy, but these actors are handling it beautifully. Once we get back into blocking I’ll get to break off with actors individually to do even more in-depth work on their text and intention. Their stage work combined with individual readings with me and the other staff members will let the magic of this play truly come to life.
