What we did

Our rehearsal today consisted of a line run to get us through the play one whole time. During our line run, we mixed it up a bit by having the campers throw a ball to the person whose line comes after them. Thus, many shenanigans ensued, like people being hit in the stomach with the juggling ball or missing their throw and throwing it at the wrong person. Although humorous, the exercise allowed the campers to truly think about what they were saying and who they were saying it to. As well as this activity, we proceeded to do some music rehearsal and then went right into an exit/entrance run. This run is just the exits and entrances of each scene to help the campers be on time.

  • From the play “It is a strange disposed time,” is what Cicero says when Caska tells him of all the portents happening in Rome.
  • From the director Natasia told them all to use their four hours of free time this afternoon to go over their lines again. Tomorrow is our last full rehearsal, and you can never be too off-book.
  • From the cast “Stay caffeinated, stay hydrated, and eat” are words we can all live by.

Production Insights

Once again, these posts are a bit shorter as rehearsals are beginning to flow into one another. This is a good sign because it means the campers really understand their roles. It is a stressful time for everyone, with sonnets being written, practice for talent shows, and learning lines. Through this stress is the sadness of leaving camp come the weekend. Yet, behind all of this, I sense a palpable excitement to share the hard work we have been laboring with for weeks.
