What we did

We began rehearsal on this fine Thursday morning with a fight call, followed by a music call. After practicing all of those elements, we began a full stumble through! Our actors did the full show off-book for the first time, and they did an amazing job. We finished off rehearsal discussing what we learned during that run, and what we were hoping to do better the next time.

Quick and Quotable

  • “Gentlemen enough of this, I pray you be better acquainted” – Said by Philario. If literally anyone had listened to him, most of the drama of our play would not have happened.
  • Emily discussed the importance of cue lines with the cast today, mentioning how “if you have a cue line, you should offer it to them with extra intention”. I think the cast really got that concept!
  • This isn’t a quote, but Casey and Lee both made the cast laugh so, so much today. I can’t wait for their clowning to have a bigger audience.

Production Insights

I spent rehearsal today on book for when people called line, so I didn’t get to watch much. However, I found myself laughing along with the cast a lot! All of our text work has really paid off, because our actors are delivering their lines with such confidence and skill! Every single actor has a line that can make the audience laugh, which brings a lot of humor to this play that was originally published as a tragedy. We are also starting to find the stillness and stoicism necessary for certain moments, which brings some really beautiful contrast to our stage.
