What we did

We had a unique rehearsal today, because we didn’t run any of our standard blocking! We played with underscoring and music, including one of the songs (a still from which is featured as the photo of the day). Working that song had all of us dancing and laughing, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. We spent the rest of the day incorporating sound into the battle scenes and finalizing our combat with Kailey Potter.

Quick and Quotable

  • “We scarce are men and you are Gods”. Spoken by Iachimo during the battle.
  • “Get up man! You’re in the army” and “Be the Statue of Liberty in the body, with the face of a man who has killed thousands of people” – Both spoken by Kailey Potter during combat work.

Production Insights

Today’s rehearsal felt very unusual, since we spent so little time working with the text in conventional ways. All of our hard work on songs and combat will pay off though, hopefully when we impress you all during our performance. I did a lot of observing, taking notes, and laughing today. The laughing was the best part, of course. I had the honor of recording the song that we worked on when we were ready to do a take, so I got to stand back and watch it unfold in glory. This is, in my humble opinion, one of the funniest things to ever be part of an ASCTC show. Almost every actor gets to be a part of it, which makes it such a memorable experience for campers and audience alike.
