What we did
After an extremely successful Festival Dress Rehearsal last night we were extremely ready, despite all the drowsiness, to get to work and make our excellent work even better. We began with a fight call, then moving onto a debrief of last night so we could talk about how we felt. The general air was that we did very well with all props and costumes being used, although everyone had at least one note for themselves. From there, we began working the latter end of the play and talked about some specific notes. Once again, we ended with a jam session rehearsal of our camp song.
Quick and Quotable
- From the Play
- “With too much blood and too little brain, these two may run mad” – Thersites
This is Thersites critiquing Achilles and Patroclus’s behavior that keeps them from the war.
- From the Director
- “Just to shoot out shot” – Mili, in reference to Noah Kahan
- From the Cast
- “They were laughing and I was like, ‘oh shit, we’re funny.’” – Delilah
- “The last time you took someone’s white boy, you started a massive war.” – Everett
- “I worked on it a little bit. Looked at it once or twice or a few times.” – John, about his line learning
- *numerous weird noises* – Bee, in place of the sound of a page turn
- “Andromache, get you in!” – Willow
Production Insights
Last night, was easily one of the best shows I’ve seen, probably ever. I had fully turned off my dramaturg brain (as much as it would allow, at least) and experienced it as an audience member with an audience, and it was a full emotional and intellectual journey. When these campers began this production they didn’t fully know what they had signed themselves onto, but now they know their mission and they’re completing every rehearsal. They have surprised me with their creativity and commitment every day and it is a privilege to watch and feel this powerful performance constantly.
