What we did

Once again, we began with our rehearsal ritual of a game of Eastenders then moving into splitting our script into beats together. In the main room, we worked up until Act 5 working through the text being able to have insightful conversations about its meaning and history. When not working in the blackbox, everyone else was out in the lobby doing their own individual text work and working on memorization. After finishing up our text work, we moved on to music with Joan to begin learning the melody for our show song and start at rewriting it to better fit our production.

Quick and Quotable

  • From the play
    • “And to Diomed / You shall be mistress and command him wholly” – Diomedes

This is Diomedes promising to Troilus that Cressida will be in charge of her own fate.

  • From the director
    • “Yes, you are now man and wife in the eyes of God” – Mili, who immediately cringed upon saying this
  • From the cast
    • “So when Helen becomes a virgin again?” “Yes.” “Oh? So never!” – Bee, Mili, Bee
    • “How are you, virgins?” – Pax summarizing Pandarus

Production Insights

The air of excitement has yet to dissipate while the love of everything surrounding the play grows. The deeper we get into the play, the more we are thinking about tougher topics. Each and every camper has impressed me with how mature and serious they are approaching these, and I can’t wait to see them get on their feet tomorrow. All the campers are slowly realizing how impactful and meaningful the play is past simply the romance of Troilus and Cressida.
