Today’s Date: July 2 (World UFO Day!)
Show Title: Troilus and Cressida
Director: Mili Konceliik
Assistant Directors: Marielle Buxbaum and Austen Bell
Stage Manager: Amy Hartt
Dramaturg: A H. Poma
What we did
We began with an energetic game of Eastenders and then leaped straight into some table-work outside where we worked on the first three scenes. After some hard work we took a break, reconvening in two separate groups inside. Mili took a group in the blackbox to continue text work while Marielle and Austen worked with the rest of the campers. For the last half hour of rehearsal, we worked on understanding the sides of the War along with the hierarchy that is a part of that, and topped it off with another Eastenders game.
Quick and Quotable
- From the play
- “Count wisdom as no member of the war” – Ulysses
The Greeks are discussing the merits in continuing the war or not, and Ulysses remarks on both the brutality of war and the disgruntlements held with how the war began.
- From the cast
- “I’m sorry, just … Pandarus” – Pax
- “She’s crazy and a woman, which is a double whammy” – Willow (in reference to Cassandra)
Production Insights
The excitement and camaraderie are still building, but it is obvious when they are still discussing our work and reading extratextual materials during our breaks. We began talking about war and what it means to go to fight for 7 years all because someone’s girl (Helen of Troy) got stolen.
