What We Did

Today we went over everyone’s exits and entrances and all the uses of the ~magic~ doors and curtains (which is just when the audience can’t see who is doing the opening and closing). We worked on Hamlet’s monologues. We specified blocking for scene 7 (which is very long). We also created a fun and eerie soundscape for the Ghost’s entrances.

Quick and Quotable

From the Play: “Stay illusion, speak to me.”

Now that we have some spooky sounds, the power of the Ghost is more palpable.

From the Director: “We need fans so we can feel like southern church ladies.”

It is very hot in Masonic.

From the Cast: “If I could marry a really old person, I’d marry Judi Dench.”

Maddie said this to Olivia, and then they continued to list older folks they would marry.

Production Insights

I love the part of the process where actors no longer need to rely on scripts and can start to get into the nitty gritty of the work. Not being memorized always hinders creativity in movement and room for greater awareness of others. Now, the cast can find deeper meaning and continue to color in the world of the play.

I definitely saw people becoming more comfortable with the work and others today. There was a lot more silliness (when appropriate, of course), which created a nice ease in the room. And while there were some enjoyable shenanigans, since the play is coming together the cast takes the work seriously.
