About the ASC

Using a unique yet versatile and flexible embrace of Shakespearean performance conditions, American Shakespeare Center produces new and classic in repertory seasons in the Blackfriars Playhouse, the world’s only recreation of Shakespeare’s indoor stage.

The “original practices” approach utilizes technical theatre that corresponds with our ever-evolving understanding of early-modern theatre-making, emphasizing the hand-made and operated and the live performer in all aspects of production. The Playhouse boasts an authentic, permanent “frons scena” that can be lightly modified and the majority of the productions are performed in universal, share light provided by a combination of chandeliers and theatrical lighting equipment.

This is an opportunity to join, and lead, a company with a growing national reach both within the theatre and the academy, becoming a part of an institution where theatre practice and scholarship work side-by-side.

The American Shakespeare Center embraces diversity and equal opportunity. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
