The American Shakespeare Center (Staunton, VA) is seeking a WARDROBE SUPERVISOR/DRESSER, FIRST HAND / STITCHER for our 2024 Summer/Fall Season and for Future Consideration.

The ASC was formed in 1988 in Central Virginia, and in 2001 the Blackfriars Playhouse was built – the world’s only recreation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Daily Laundry of Shows in performance
  • Daily maintenance of costume pieces, wigs, and accessories as requested by Actors, SMs, etc.
  • Wardrobe / Dresser during performances, helping with quick changes, pre-sets, and post-show cleaning-up.
  • Assisting assistant stage manager backstage during performances (as needed, and if available) with door pages, curtain pages, decluttering, etc.
  • Notifying Costume Shop Managers and Designers of any major issues / repairs.
  • Setting up dressing room spaces
  • Working with Costume Shop Manager on organizing racks
  • Keeping Wardrobe Room and Costume Shop tidy, and managing inventory of laundry needs.
  • Stitching, Draping, and other alterations (as needed) before and during production dates.
  • Being present for and assisting during photo calls
  • Managing strike at end of season; sorting laundry and restocking items.
  • “Renaissance Style” shows – manage and supervise the pulling of costumes, providing guidance and alterations when needed.
  • Reports directly to Costume Shop Manager and Production Manager

Seeking applicants with availability to begin in May 2024.

COMPENSATION:

$36,000 annually.
Full time, salaried position. Health + Dental available for year-round staff
