The monstrous Roman emperor, Domitianus Caesar, cruelly abuses his power to satisfy his every depraved desire. At the emperor’s command, Paris, the beguiling Roman actor, performs three plays – each with increasingly disastrous consequences. In this captivating and startling play written for the original Blackfriars Playhouse, Massinger shows us a fascinating look into the nature of power and the power of extreme theatre.
